Backstage courses | National Youth Theatre (age 16 – 25)

Love theatre but not a performer?

Every year the National Youth Theatre work with hundreds of young people aged between 16-25 who help bring our shows to life through their talents not just on stage, but backstage too. Whether you are interested in lighting, sound, scenic construction, stage management or costume, there could be a role for you to be a part of our epic shows amongst our vital backstage teams. Led by industry experts, with backstage visits and tours to top theatre venues, our backstage courses give you practical experience that will help develop your interest and technical knowledge within your chosen field. The courses cater for all levels of experience. So, if you have knowledge in your field already our industry professional tutor will be able to stretch you, or if you are brand new to backstage its a great way to try something new and develop your interest in a specific field. If you are interested in applying to join our backstage programme you will need to attend a ‘backstage experience day’. The day is designed for you to see all elements of our backstage courses, while applying for the faculty you would like to develop your skills in. On the experience day you will:

Be introduced to an industry-based professionalLearn more about the National Youth Theatre and each role within our backstage opportunities.

Take part in a problem solving challenge.

Take part in an informal interview about you interests and any previous experience

Be given the chance to meet current backstage members and ask questions about backstage membership
